My birthday is on June 19th and I only learned about Juneteenth six years ago. It is embarrassing to admit this and it is the truth. I know I am far from the only white person for whom this is true. This month, I felt it was important to share a piece about Juneteenth that provides more than a cursory glance at its origins. I have also included a book by Annette Gordon-Reed for those of you who would like to take a deeper dive into the history of this day. I hope you do!!

See you on the journey,

Robin

  • Here is a note about this website: The Undoing Racism® Workshop offered by The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond has been our flagship anti-racist workshop for over a decade, during which time we have built a huge network of anti-racist individuals who ground themselves in Antiracist Principles. We are pleased to announce that for the start of 2021 we are sponsoring many different workshops run by accomplished trainers and organizers within our vast network who have committed themselves to the lifelong practice of Anti-racism.
